El Nido Family Centers Awarded 4 Stars by the City of Los Angeles

El Nido Family Centers earns 4 out of 4 Stars for their Pacoima FamilySource Center from The City of Los Angeles in their very first Annual Performance Evaluation. The non-profit organization also received special recognition for their assistance with the City’s gang prevention program.
On February 8, 2010, Mayor Villaraigosa celebrated the opening of twenty-one Family Source Centers throughout Los Angeles. Designed to be a one-stop resource, each center offers a variety of educational, family, child and youth services including; counseling, after school activities, financial literacy and tax preparation, ESL classes, food distribution, and disaster preparation training.
El Nido Family Centers was selected to manage the FamilySource Center serving the north San Fernando Valley in Pacoima. In order to stay certified, FSC’s must meet strict performance goals. The City of Los Angeles evaluates and certifies each FSC through a formal Performance Evaluation annually. FSCs are graded on customer satisfaction, outcomes, flow and administrative capacity.
After their first full year in this new venture, El Nido was awarded the highest rating; 4 out of 4 stars. Of the 21 centers citywide, only two others were given this honor. In addition, El Nido Family Centers was recognized by The City of Los Angeles for enrolling the highest number of individuals (102) referred from the City’s Gang Reduction and Youth Development program (GRYD).
El Nido Family Centers is proud to have been selected by the City as a partner in this endeavor and we look forward to continuing to serve the families of Los Angeles.
Jeff Thomas Elected to the Board of Directors

On May 28, Jeff Thomas, a senior manager at Grant Thornton, joined the El Nido Board of Directors. In his 10 years of audit experience, Jeff has managed engagements in the engineering and construction, retail, technology, not-for-profit, higher education and the healthcare sectors.
Jeff tells us why he decided to volunteer to serve on the Board: “I was approached by Fred Samulon after a recommendation from a trusted business colleague and was hooked from the beginning. The vision and mission is so crucial in our world today and my wife and I strongly support and believe in the programs offered by El Nido. I am both happy and excited to be involved and help further the mission of El Nido.”

New Playground at El Nido Early Head Start Family Centers

Tiny Tots will now have a safe place to run and play outdoors in the heart of South Los Angeles. A ceremonial ribbon cutting on Saturday, January 22, at 12 noon, is set for the grand opening of El Nido Early Head Start Family Center’s “Tiny Tots Playscape.”
